Malachite is one of the oldest gemstones favoured by the ancients and made famous by King Solomon's Mines. It was prized for it's colour qualities but it's composition of copper made it valuable to extract metals form. Here Jade Mellor has captured the qualities of swirling greens in her artistic processes, sculpturally set with a gleaming bronze band.

"In researching the ancient history of malachite I came across the Egyptian Goddess Hatha. Originally a personification of the Milky Way, she was known as Lady of Stars, Sovereign of Stars and also Lady of Malachite - the "women's stone" used to protect and beautify. By wearing the green malachite make up on the eye (called Udju) meant she was directly looking out for you.

Mistress of the Heavens, she embodied joy, romance, dancing, alcohol, beauty, perfume, music and loved beautiful and good things. This is my cocktail ring for Hatha and her interstellar parties." Jade

A lot of time and care has gone into this piece, to look after it please treat as a ceramic as it can break if dropped or knocked against a hard surface. Liquids and perfumes should be avoided. It can be cleaned if necessary with a soft clean, dry cloth.
